Light seal replacement for the Olympus XA series
The foam seals in the back door turn to sticky crumbs with age and let light streak across your film. Almost every XA I service gets new seals.
Signs your seals need replacing
- Orange or red streaks or fogging along the edges of your negatives
- Black, sticky or crumbling foam around the back door hinge and latch
- Residue on the film rails or pressure plate
What I do
I remove all of the old foam and clean off the residue, including from the body channels, so nothing ends up on your film. Then I fit new seals cut for the XA series and check the door closes and latches properly.
Light seals are usually done alongside other work, since most cameras that arrive here are due for them.
